Brighton – Mrs. Cecilia M. Gutierrez, of Brighton, died on August 1st in the Maristhill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 97.
She was born in Bogota, Colombia on August 2, 1915. She was raised and educated in Bogota and had moved to the United States in April of 1966, where she settled into the Brighton neighborhood of Boston. She loved to travel and was interested in studying holistic medicine. Above all else she loved time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was the wife of the late Joaquin Gutierrez and mother of the late Juan Gutierrez.
She is survived by her children, Fernando Gutierrez and his wife, Nelly, Jose Gutierrez and his wife, Doris, and Yolanda Gutierrez, all of Brighton, Jairo Gutierrez and his wife, Evelina, of Arlington, and Patricia Guzman and her husband, Epi, of Watertown; her grandchildren, Claudia Gutierrez, William Gutierrez and his wife, Heather, Ana Maria Ruggie and her husband, Graham, Juan Jose Gutierrez and his wife, Wendy, Walter Gutierrez and his wife, Becky, Jairo Gutierrez, Sandra Marquez and her husband, Jose, Sergio Guzman and Andres Guzman; her great-grandchildren, Erika and Franklin Tanner, Natalia Gutierrez, Analicia and Sophia Ruggie, Gabrielle and Alejandro Gutierrez, Lilly, Katelyn and Nicholas Gutierrez and Joaquin Marquez and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Cecilia's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, August 5th, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 7:45 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Columbkille Church, 321 Market St., Brighton where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Prayers of Final Commendation will follow in Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut St., Newton.
