Charles Richard Brophy of Norwood, formerly of Waltham, was called home to be with his heavenly father on December 24, 2024.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Christine (nee Audley) Brophy.
Born in Waltham on the cold day of February 4, 1952 to the late Dorothy and Lawrence Brophy, Charlie lived his life with kindness, positivity, and a good yarn. A talented young athlete, Charlie went on to graduate from Waltham High School in 1970, and Marquette University, working in the Midwest for years before heading back east to Waltham. He was formerly married to Lynne (nee Schaufus/Brophy) Gauthier and they had three children in four years, Christopher, Brendon, and Andrea. During that time, he coached the Waltham Connie Mack Baseball League team to a National Championship, an accolade he was always very proud of, and in the early 2000s revived the league as Commissioner within the Greater Boston Area to its former glory.
Always loving to be his own boss, he started his business: Federal Office Furniture Company, successfully watching it grow through years until it was time to move to the next adventure in life and career. Meeting his great love Christine in 2003, they married in 2005 and spent 20 wonderful years together on road trips, city dates and explorations, many baseball games, explored the Emerald Isle, beach days at the Marshfield cottage, and in the daily comfort of each other’s company.
We will always remember Charlie as the biggest laugher, the best sounding board, the kindest man, the gentlest soul, the hardest fighter, and the biggest Red Sox fan that ever existed and always just a phone call away.
In addition to his wife, Christine, he leaves his children, Christopher M. Brophy (Kristyn) of Lincoln, New Hampshire, Brendon C. Brophy of Foxborough and Andrea L. Williams ( Brian) of Yarmouth, Maine; his three grandchildren: Noah, Stella, and Cullen – the lights of his life; his siblings: Carolyn Coughlin of Framingham, Donald Brophy of The Villages, Florida and Susan Brophy of Waltham. He was brother to late Lawrence Brophy; brother-in-law of Mary Barry, Michael Audley, Kathy Ordonez, and Sean Audley; also survived by seven nephews, one niece, many grandnieces and grandnephews, countless friends and acquaintances he met throughout his life.
Family and friends will honor and remember Charlie's life by gathering for an Afternoon Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial is private.
