Natick – Mr. Charles J. Nadeau, Jr., of Natick, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, July 22, 2018 at his home. He was 90.
Charlie was born in Charlestown on February 28, 1928, a son of the late Charles J., Sr. and Viola M. (Hinke) Nadeau. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps and served as part of the occupation force in the Pacific at the end of World War II and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War.
He lived in Waltham before moving to Natick in 1975. Until his retirement Charlie worked for thirty-eight years as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and spent most of that time working out the Weston Post Office. After that he worked for years at Ogilvie's in Weston before finally retiring when he was 79.
Charlie belonged to American Legion Post 107 and Amvets Post 79, both in Natick, where he indulged his favorite pastime and hobby, playing pool, for years. He was also a member of the championship Natick Senior Center team.
The husband of the late Emily (Call) Nadeau, he leaves his children, Charles J. "Chuck" Nadeau, III and his wife, Mary of Dedham, Kenneth E. Nadeau of Salisbury, Jeanne E. Nadeau of Lehigh Acres, Florida and Richard W. "Rick" Nadeau of Hudson; his step-children, Georgie Smith, Emily Hayes and Leslie Nesky; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews
He was a brother of the late James and Wilfred Nadeau, Vina Bradish, Dorothy Jernigan and Elizabeth Parker.
Family and friends will honor and remember Charlie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, July 26th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning in Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, 320 Boston Post Road, Weston where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
