Waltham – Mr. Charles Walter Noke, of Waltham, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Sunny Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chelmsford. He was 92.
Walter was born in Newton on November 22, 1918, a son of the late William G. and Evelyn D. (Wignut) Noke. During World War II Walter served as a sergeant with the United States Army’s 107th Infantry Regiment in Europe. He participated in the battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in action on March 3, 1945.
Until his retirement Walter worked as a machine operator at the Reece Corporation in Waltham for thirty-two years. He was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member for more than seventy years of the Waltham Triad Lodge, A.F. & A.M.
Walter was the husband of the late Mary C. (Tomao); father of the late James Chicco, Antonio Chicco and Antoinette Sullivan; grandfather of the late Robert Sullivan and a brother of the late Ernest, William, Edmund, Herbert, Robert, Ruth, and Louise Noke, Evelyn Evans, Mildred Wheeler, Hazel Wheeler, and Marion Farrell.
He is survived by thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Walter’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Sunday, March 20th, from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 11:30 a.m. on Monday morning when his funeral service will be held. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
