Belmont – Mr. Charles L. Rheaume, of Belmont, formerly of Waltham, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Spaulding Hospital in Cambridge. He was 84.
Charlie was born in Waltham on April 6, 1928, a son of the late Lucien and Mary (Pineau) Rheaume, and had been a lifelong resident before moving to Belmont. During the Korean War he served with the United States Army.
In 1983 Charlie retired after a 30 year career as a Waltham Firefighter, working mainly out of the Engine 3, Willow Street station. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 866 and the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 in Waltham.
He was a man of many talents . . . he golfed as often as the weather and his health would allow, he was an accomplished piano player; able to play a tune by ear after hearing it once and Charlie was known by family and friends as a cook extraordinaire . . . both at the fire station and at home.
The husband of the late Sandra (O'Connell) (Hebert), he leaves his children, Marianne Manko and her husband, Robert, of Pompano Beach, Florida, William Rheaume of Waltham, Catherine Kelly and her husband, Robert, and Jacqueline Connor all of Wrentham; his step-children, Michael and Nicole Hebert both of Belmont; his brother and sister, Richard Rheaume of Summerfield, Florida and Jeanne Rheaume of Monaca, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was also a brother of the late Alice Sennett, Mae LeFort, Emily Latta and Helen Egan.
Family and friends will honor and remember Charlie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, October 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
