Avondale, AZ – Mr. Chester A. "Arthur" Richardson, Jr. of Avondale AZ, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, in his home. He was 86. Chester was born in Newton on September 30, 1926, a son of the late Chester A. and Grace L. (Alexander) Richardson.
Chester was educated in the Watertown school system and had been a Waltham resident for over sixty years before moving to Arizona three years ago.
He worked numerous jobs from the age of fourteen. Most recently, Chester was employed by EG&G in Waltham and the City of Newton until his retirement.
He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army. Chester received the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He was a former member of the Newton Loyal Order of Moose, the Waltham V.F.W., as well as the Waltham Elks.
He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with equipment and gardening.
Chester is survived by his wife, Therese C. (Deneault) Richardson; their children, Chester A. Richardson, III and his wife, Laurie Doble, of North Attleboro, Joseph W. Richardson, and his wife, Lucy Centola, of Goodyear AZ, Cynthia L. Walker and her husband, Richard H. of Avondale AZ, Cheryl A. Sanford of Waltham, and Jean M. Rogers and her husband, Philip A. of Lowell; twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends will honor and remember Chester's life by gathering for calling hours on Friday, July 12th, from 4-8 pm in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham and again on Saturday, July 13th, where his Funeral Service will be held at 10 am. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery in Waltham.
