Waltham – Mrs. Chrysoula H. (Boukis) Keene, of Waltham, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Norwood Hospital. She was 81.
Chrysoula was born in Haverhill on June 12, 1929, a daughter of the late Adam and Helen (Cambourelis) Boukis, one of the first Greek families to settle in the city. She lived in Waltham for many years before moving to the Hellenic Nursing and Skilled Care Center in Canton twenty-three years ago after the multiple sclerosis she suffered from caused permanent disabilities.
She was a graduate of Haverhill High School and of Colby College in Maine in 1951, majoring in biology. She had worked for many years as a credit manager for IBM in Waltham and for the Kendall Corporation in Boston. Chrysoula had been a former member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Waltham where she sang with the choir. In her younger days she was an avid tennis play and skier who also enjoyed traveling the country and the world with family and friends.
The wife of the late Thomas R. Keene, Jr., she leaves her children, Christopher M. Keene and his wife, Cynthia, of Lexington and Thomas R. Keene, III and his wife, Marianne, of Waltham, her grandchildren, Adam and Jillian Keene; her dear friend, Nancy Archibald of Hingham and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also a sister of the late Michael Boukis and Thalia DePanfilis.
Family and friends will honor and remember Chrysoula’s life by gathering to visit from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
