West Newton – Claire M. Kennedy, of West Newton, died at home on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. She was 71.
Claire was born in Boston on October 27, 1950, a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Agnes R. (Lopes) Cady. She was raised in Dorchester and was a 1968 graduate of Hyde Park High School.
A West Newton resident for more than forty years, she worked as a Newton crossing guard before going to work in the assessor's office at Newton City Hall.
Claire leaves her children, John J. Kennedy, III (Tifany) of Maynard and Shayna A. Marshall (Kevin) of Amesbury; her grandchildren, Noella and Isabella Kennedy and Kevin and Maeve Marshall; her niece and nephews, Debra, Thomas and Christopher Rousseau and many grandnieces and grandnephews, especially Matthew and Andrew Albanna and Morgan, Nicole and Joel Rousseau, as well as many cousins and close friends.
Claire truly was the best mother any child could hope for. Everything Claire did was focused around her children and grandchildren. They were her heart and soul, she would give them the world. Gamma had a special bond with each of her grandchildren and she loved them infinitely.
Because Claire's priority was her family, we have so many beautiful memories that we will treasure. Christmas Eve and St. Patrick's Day were her favorite holidays and she always had the best celebrations. Her decorations, food, gadgets, and the games she came up with were amazing and so much fun. She also was the best cook, making sure to have on hand everyone's favorites for when they visited. Everyone loved her cookies, peanut butter balls and her delicious sauce.
Claire was a huge Patriots fan and specifically loved watching Tom Brady play. She also liked to go to Mohegan on occasion and enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby.
Claire was the glue that held our family together. Her house was home base for all of us. She was the go-to person for advice, a hug and a good laugh. Her endless love, support and guidance will be missed by all.
Family and friends will honor and remember Claire's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, February 23rd from 4 to 7 p.m.
