Claire T. Maloney

Waltham – Mrs. Claire T. (Morrissey) Maloney, of Waltham, died Monday, September 13, 2010 in Wayland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 84.

Claire was born in Waltham on February 20, 1926 a daughter of the late John and Mary (Lunny) Morrissey. A lifelong Waltham resident she was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Regis College in Weston.

Before staying at home to raise her three children she was a medical librarian for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Waltham.

Claire was known for her quick wit and contagious sense of humor. A voracious reader she also had a natural gift and passion for sculpting. She was a member of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish and the Alumni Association at Regis College.

She was predeceased by her husband, Francis J. Maloney who died November 13, 1956 and her siblings, Walter and Ethel Morrissey.

She leaves her children, Theresa A. Maloney-Wallace of Watertown, John J. Maloney and his wife, Laurie, of Tampa, Florida and Joseph F. Maloney, and his wife, Jan, of Weston; her grandchildren, Laura, Connor and Elizabeth Maloney, Melissa Wood and Maureen Nauyokas; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the grandmother of the late Kevin Wallace.

Family and friends will honor and remember Claire’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Thursday, September 16th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
