Waltham – Mrs. Claire A. (Schubert) Rourke, of Waltham, died Saturday, September 22, 2018 in the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 91.
Claire was born on November 20, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late Adam L. and Margaret M. (McMahon) Schubert and was raised in Queens. In February, 1949 she married Waltham native Francis J. Rourke and the couple made Waltham their lifelong home.
Until her retirement she worked for years as a teller and in the accounting department at Auburndale Cooperative Bank.
Claire's passion for writing was nurtured and developed when she became a member of the BOLLI program at Brandeis University's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Her legacy includes a published collection of stories, memoirs and poems that will be cherished by her family for generations to come.
She was also an early supporter of Waltham's Reagle Players and had been a longtime member of the Waltham Garden Club.
In addition to her husband, Frank, she leaves her children, Stephen F. Rourke (Donna) of Waltham, Regina C. Harrold (Robert) of Franklin and Bernice A. Bell (Jay) of Bellingham; her grandchildren, Adam Rourke (Jenny Blicharz), Patrick Rourke (Maria), Stephanie Bahl (Gaurav), Regan Harrold (Greg Andreola) and Emily Day (Alan); her great grandchildren, Miyana and Kamran Bahl; her sister, Eileen L. Jackson of Maryland, and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Claire's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning when her funeral service will be held at 11 am. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
