Waltham – Mr. Coleman "Wally" Whayne, of Waltham, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 78.
Wally was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 21, 1938, a son of the late Coleman W., Jr. and Blanche E. (Blair) Whayne. After high school he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock where he earned an engineering degree.
He lived in Greenville and Bedford, New Hampshire before moving to Waltham twelve years ago. Until his retirement he worked as an engineer and a manager for EMC Corporation in Hopkinton and before that held the same position with Digital Equipment Corporation in Nashua.
Wally loved the Boston Red Sox and looked forward to yearly trips to attend spring training with the team in Fort Myers, Florida. He was an avid traveler and loved frequent trips to Europe, especially to Switzerland, Northern Italy, Spain, and England.
This year's presidential race was particularly important to Wally . . . as an unapologetic liberal he fully supported Bernie Sanders' run for the White House and shared the enthusiasm that his campaign brought to the political landscape. Wally authored his own political blog called www.coolgreenhills.com .
He leaves his wife, Susanne S. (Santoro) Whayne; his children, Evan B. Whayne of Manchester New Hampshire, Colin E. Whayne of Mansfield and Miranda J. Miller of Boston and his sister, Barbara Ruggerio of Texas.
He was also the brother of the late Steve Whayne.
Family and friends will honor and remember Wally's life by gathering to visit at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3rd in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham where his funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Burial will be private.
