Newton – Mr. Colin H. MacNevin, of Newton, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at home. He was 72.
Colin was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada on January 31, 1944 to the late Eugene M. and Mary (O'Keefe) MacNevin.
He attended Newton High School, Newton Technical High School and Quincy Junior College. Colin's career began at Signet Lithographers where he worked as an offset pressman and later became a general manager for Cory Press, Inc. He worked at the Registry of Motor Vehicles as a senior clerk and retired from the City of Newton as an offset printer.
Colin served as past commander of the Disabled American Veterans, William J. Farrell Chapter 13 in Newton. He was a member of the Newton American Legion Post #440, the 101st Infantry and the Yankee Division Veterans Association.
Colin was a family history buff and enjoyed spending his free time charting the genealogy of the MacNevin and MacKenzie families.
A proud Army veteran Colin served in the United States Army from 1975 to 1986. One of his duties was serving as a recruiter which became a passion that he carried into his retirement when he worked as a Sergeant First Class Career Counselor.
Colin leaves his wife, Linda (Nolan) MacNevin; their children Colin 'Bob' MacNevin and his wife Tina, of Danbury, Connecticut and Matthew MacNevin of Needham; his grandchildren, Colin and Emma MacNevin; his brother, Alex MacKenzie and his wife, Mitzi, of Newton and his sisters, Sharon Monahan of Bellingham and Cape Cod and Nina MacDougall of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Colin was a brother of the late Eugene and Jane MacNevin, and Anne Cooney.
Family and friends will honor and remember Colin's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 29th from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Road, Wellesley where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery, Newton.
