Shrewsbury - Corinne Anne O'Neil Wood would agree that her ninety years of life were filled with a lot of love, fun and memories. Life was not without heartache and sacrifice though everyday she shared her kindness and spirited love with family.
Corinne was born on August 9, 1931 in New York, New York a daughter of the late Charles L. And Lilianne (LaPointe) O'Neil. Throughout her childhood, she lived in many places, graduating from Mount Lebanon High School near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and earned her Bachelor's degree from Trinity College, Washington D.C.
She married Henry H. Wood Jr. on June 12, 1954 at St. Hugo of the Hills Church in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Residents of Shrewsbury since 1961 and married for almost 65 years, Henry died on January 17, 2019.
She had a full and blessed life. She treasured her family summers in Westport enjoying her favorite things including clamming, eating lobster and sailing. Corinne loved the read of a good book, the challenge of a daily New York Times crossword, and the victory of a win from her countless bridge games with her close knit group.
Corinne along with Henry loved to travel around the world and drive across the U.S. in their RV. Her family experienced many lovely adventures along the way. Corinne was always in the driver's seat whether for a local road trip or on a long haul with Henry by her side as her navigator. It was a wonderful friendship and marriage.
Corinne was long active in her much loved Shrewsbury. An active member and volunteer at the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, she was past president of its women's auxiliary and hosted numerous pot-luck dinners for the international scientists and their families. The Mustard Seed Catholic Worker Community, Girls Scouts along with the 'High Fever Frolicks' at Memorial Hospital and the Shakespeare Club in Grafton were all places in which she loved being involved.
She loved her piano. Whether simply playing alone or entertaining those gathered in the room, her heart was full. She kept active in earlier years with tennis and skiing and in later years with Connie Bartelson's group at Saint Mary's Church 'Senior Sweats'.
Corinne's gifts were from her heart. She was beyond words generous and loving to her entire family. Material things in her world were of little significance. The opportunity to hug a child and grandchild, three of whom she considered children was most important to her.
Corinne stepped aboard their beloved sailboat 'Chinook' to sail into eternity sunrise with Henry. She died at home on Monday, April 25, 2022. She was 90.
The Wood family offers heartfelt appreciation to Comfort Sarkodieh who lovingly cared for her the last year of Corinne's life.
In addition to her beloved Henry, she is predeceased by her son Michael Wood and his wife, Emily, and son-in-law, Richard Quitadamo.
She leaves her children, Lisa Wood Gregoire (Dennis), of Charlotte, North Carolina, Julie Wood Quitadamo of Shrewsbury and David O. Wood (Theresa) of Furlong, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Jessica Faith (Brian), David Wood (Lindsey), Allison Tallman (Jacob), Michael Gregoire (Caroline), Christopher Gregoire (Angelica), Andrew Gregoire (Julie Mayo), Cole Quitadamo, Bradley Quitadamo, Isaac Wood, Erin Wood, and Eli Wood; her great-grandchildren, Hadley, Leo and Charlie Gregoire, Henry Wood and Carter Faith; her sister, Eleanor English of Scottsdale, Arizona; nieces & nephews.
