"We're here for a reason. I believe a bit of the reason is to throw little torches out to lead people through the dark!" said Whoopi Goldberg. And for those of us who remain...this is our task and a way in which we can honor the memory of Courtney Marie Johnson...and help others.
Courtney died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, January 10, 2019. She was 19.
Born on November 26, 1999 in Waltham she was a daughter of Yvette M. (Lebon) Johnson of Waltham and the late Steven Alan Johnson. Raised and educated in Waltham she graduated with the class of 2018 from Waltham High School where she played field hockey and ran with the track team. She had just finished her first semester at University of Massachusetts - Lowell in its nursing program.
Caring and selfless are only a couple of words which accurately describe Courtney. She loved to be in the kitchen and was a great cook. And as much as she loved to cook and eat she would counter it all by her dedication to working out religiously and staying fit. She had a fantastic sense of humor and a real quick wit. With a love for shopping she had a keen eye for the nicer things in the stores. She adored her animals.
Courtney is in heaven with her dad, Steven and her grandparents, Robert and Maralynn (Mayer) Johnson.
She leaves her mother, Yvette M. (Lebon) Johnson and her sister, Ashley M. Cormier, all of Waltham; her grandparents, Keith W. and Michelle E. (Walba) Lebon of Sanborton, New Hampshire, formerly of Waltham; her niece, Skylar Cormier; aunts and uncles, Kristen and William McHugh and Eric Johnson; her cousins, Kaitlyn, Billy, Timothy and John McHugh, Jaime and Jessica Johnson and a host of friends.
Family and friends will honor and remember Courtney's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, January 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning when her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to AFSP (www.afsp.org) or Buddy Dog Humane Society, 151 Boston Post Rd, Sudbury MA 01776.
