Waltham – Mr. Damiano Puleo, of Waltham, died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. He was 89.
Damiano was born in Palermo, Sicily on August 19, 1924, a son of the late Calogero and Giuseppina (Natale) Puleo. He moved to the United States in 1967 and a year later married Antonietta Girardi and the couple made their home in Waltham.
Until his retirement Damiano worked as a welder for Barry Controls in Watertown. He took great care of his home, especially his bountiful garden. He also became a skilled winemaker and always enjoyed visits by his family from Sicily, becoming the family tour guide to destinations on the Cape and the North Shore.
Damiano's wife, Antonietta, died March 6, 2009.
He leaves his brother, Calogero Puleo and his wife, Anna, of Milan, Italy and his cousins, Marianne Merola and Dr. Henry Merola and his wife, Rosemary, all of Waltham and several nieces and nephews.
Damiano was also a brother of the late Giuseppe Puleo and Philomena Puleo and a cousin of the late Joseph and Anthony Merola.
Family and friends will honor and remember Damiano's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, July 29th from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Waltham.
