Waltham – Mr. Daniel E. O’Donoghue, of Waltham, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Newton Health Care Center after a brief illness due to cancer. He was 82.
Dan was born in Boston on February 27, 1928, a son of the late Frederick and Florence (MacPhee) O’Donoghue, and was raised and educated in Wellesley. He had been a Waltham resident since 1961.
A 1951 graduate of Norwich University, Dan served with the United States Army during the Korean War. For most of his professional career, he worked as a marketing executive for Mobil Oil Company. After retiring, Dan took great pleasure in visiting friends, traveling, playing golf, relaxing at his cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee, and, best of all, spending time with his grandson Griffin. Dan was also a long-time usher at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham.
Dan was the husband of the late Pauline T. (Ronayne) O’Donoghue, who died in January 2005, and leaves his children, Steven O’Donoghue and his wife, Kim, of Norwood; Janet O’Donoghue and her husband, Patrick Noé, of Quincy; Dianne O’Donoghue and her husband, Stewart Woodward, of Waltham; his grandson, Griffin O’Donoghue; and his sister, Nancy O’Donoghue, of Waltham.
Family and friends will honor and remember Dan’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
