David B. Cawley

Waltham – Mr. David B. Cawley, of Waltham, died Friday, August 26, 2016 in Wingate at Weston. He was 74.

Dave was born in Newton on September 20, 1941, a son of the late Paul and Agnes (O'Donnell) Cawley. After graduating from Newton Technical High School he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War.

On November 17, 1971 he married Maureen F. McIvor in Saint Jude Church and the couple made their home in Waltham. Before his retirement he was firefighter with the Newton Fire Department for over thirty years.

Dave will long be remembered as being a good man, a trusted friend and a devoted husband . . . he and Maureen loved one another's company, taking care of their home and yard and short vacations to Wells, Maine. When Dave lost his Maureen on January 2, 2014 he missed her every day . . . their forty-two years of married life were the greatest gift he ever received.

He leaves his brother, Donald P. Cawley of Framingham; his sisters-in-law, Marilyn McDonough of Waltham and Nancy Cox and her husband, Donald, of Arlington and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was also a brother of the late Mary Jane Dello Russo and Paula Lamont.

Family and friends will honor and remember David's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, August 30th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
