Waltham - Mr. David C. Mallett, of Waltham, formerly of Weston died Friday, May 23, 2014 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 81.
David was born February 22, 1933 in Newton a son of the late Theodore and Lois (Bostwick) Mallett. The death of his mother at childbirth and an illness that took his father at a young age left him orphaned and he was raised and adopted by his grandparents, Clarence T. and Jessie M. (Scott) Mallett. David lived most of his life in Weston where he graduated from Weston High School. He moved to Waltham in 2007. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
David worked as a custodian for the Town of Weston at the high school for many years. He also worked as manager of the battery department for Sears in both Natick and in Waltham for over 30 years.
His interests included automobiles and he recently enjoyed the sight of his fully restored 1924 Model T Ford. He was an amateur ham radio operator with the handle WAIBFA. Always happy when in the presence of his family he also enjoyed fishing and animals. David was a proud member of the Tin Can Sailors whose mission is to remind everyone to remember those who gave their lives so that the rest of us might remain free.
David's wife, Louise C. (Hadley) Mallett died January 1, 2004.
He leaves his children, Stephen C. Mallett and his wife, Patricia, of Waltham and Lucinda E. 'Cindy' Babstock and her husband, John, of Waltham; his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Isabella and Hadley; his half-sister, Rita Jacobson; his sister-in-law, Bernice Hadley of Waltham; his cousin, Thomas Scott and his wife, Florence of Exeter, New Hampshire; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember David's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, June 2nd from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by his Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rev. Amy McCreath will officiate. Burial in Linwood Cemetery will be private.
