David J. 'Nokey' Noke

March 26, 1949 — December 3, 2020

David J. 'Nokey' Noke, a resident of The Pinehills in Plymouth, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, December 3, 2020 at home after an illness. He was 71.

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of Herbert ("Fuzzy") and Theresa (Lynch) Noke. He was raised in Waltham and was a graduate of Waltham High Class of 1967.
He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. David completed three tours of duty between 1967 and 1970. In honor of his fellow veterans, he had a brick installed in the Circle of Remembrance at the Waltham Common for each family member who served.

After the army David attended GTE Sylvania IT Technical School in Waltham, earned his Bachelor's of Computer Science at Northeastern (1988) and an MBA at Bentley University's McCallum Graduate School of Business (1996), all on the G.I. Bill of Rights. He had a long and successful career in the IT field where he started as a test technician with Compugraphics/AGFA and retired a Senior Global Program IT Director from Wang Labs/Getronics.

David loved spending time with family and friends and watching sports. He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed history and became the family genealogist. He took many trips to Ireland tracing his maternal ancestors back to their origin and through their migration to and within Massachusetts. He loved to share his findings and pictures, memorializing it all within a family tree. He had a photographic memory remembering everything in great detail. He located the gravesites of many ancestors in Ireland, England and in and around Massachusetts and visited the ones in Massachusetts with flowers on Memorial Day. He obtained his Irish citizenship in 2009.

His family and friends will remember him as a man of honor, tradition and boundless generosity; a true friend and family man. His presence will be greatly missed.

David is predeceased by his brother Michael Noke Sr., brother-in-heart Bob "Harpo" Naughton and goddaughter Alycia Marcou.

He is survived by his brother Michael's widow Edie, his brother Robert Noke (Diane), his sisters Kathy Malloy (Michael) and Ruth Lacroix (Wayne) and was a loving uncle to nephews and nieces Michael Noke Jr. (Lisa), Brandon Noke (Liz), Candice Tee (Amy), Ashley Harkins (Joe), Jeremy Arseneau, Meagan and Molly Malloy and great uncle to Liam and Andrew Noke, Giovanna Fuschetti, Elizabeth and Evelyn Harkins and Maeve and Michael David Noke. He is also survived by his families-in-heart; Randy, Nancy, Monica, Daniel and the entire Marcou family, Bob Naughton's widow Karen and sons Sean and Matthew and the entire Naughton family as well as many lifelong friends growing up in the Chesterbrook Gardens ("WAL-LEX") Project who will remember him as "Nokey."

Family and friends will honor and remember David's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, December 8th from 4 to 7 p.m. His funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
