Waltham – Mr. David Preston, of Waltham, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Blair House in Tewksbury. He was 80.
David was born in Leicester, England on June 14, 1931, a son of the late Frederick and Winifred (Newton) Preston and emigrated to the United States in 1952 and moved to Waltham a year later. During the Korean War he served with the United States Army and in 1955 he became an American citizen.
Until his retirement David worked as a technician for Thermo Fisher Scientific. He enjoyed gardening in his yard and a round of golf in his later years and had been a regular bowler at the Wal-Lex Bowling Lanes in Waltham. He also belonged to the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 in Waltham and the PFC John M. Sullivan USMC Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10334 in Waltham.
The husband of the late Helen (McGuire) Preston, he leaves his children, David Preston, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Woburn and Debra Masterson of Waltham; 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember David's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, January 2nd, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Trinity Church, 730 Main Street, Waltham where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
