Gloucester – Mr. David M. Rooney, of Gloucester, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a six month battle with cancer. He was 64.
David was born in Newton on August 1, 1945, a son of the late James and Elsie (Nutt) Rooney, and had been a Gloucester resident since 1976. Until his retirement he worked as a water meter reader for the City of Gloucester Department of Public Works for twenty years. He was an animal lover and had an inquisitive nature and enjoyed all kinds of history and science.
He served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and had been a member of the Massachusetts Amvets Post # 32.
David leaves his children, Laura A. Rooney of New Haven. Vermont and Christine A. Rooney of Salem; his former wife, Avgenia C. (Chrest) Rooney of Essex; three brothers, James Rooney of Westwood, Robert Rooney of Arlington and Kevin Rooney of Berlin and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember David’s life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
