Dawn Marie Hobson was born in Newton on November 8, 1967 a daughter of Rose Marie (Gilligan) Hobson and the late Albert W. 'Bob' Hobson. Raised in Waltham she was a graduate from Waltham High School with the class of 1985. She then earned her Bachelor's degree from Boston College in 1992 with a degree in journalism.
She began work at Extech Instruments in Waltham where she met Jeffrey A. Costello. They married in her native parish church of Saint Jude on May 22, 1993 and have made Marlborough their home for over twenty-eight years.
Diagnosed in June of 2002 with a glioblastoma the prognosis was grim with an expectancy of no more than three years. But the power of love, prayer, a doting husband and three daughters whom she worshipped helped her persevere and live twenty years with her illness. While at home raising and being an active part of their lives Dawn kept with her passion for writing and worked as a free-lance editor for various entities. As well she had a life-long passion for reading with a varied interest in numerous subjects.
Dawn died Friday, September 9, 2022 in UMASS Memorial Healthcare - Marlborough Hospital. She was 54.
She loved things old, like antiques and photographs. Dawn was always in companionship with her golden retrievers, Riley and Murphy.
In addition to her husband of 29 years, Jeffrey, she leaves her daughters, Lisa M., Morgan A. and Samantha K. Costello, all of Marlborough; her grandchildren, Connor and Kaleb Dumais; her mother, Rose Marie Hobson of Waltham; her siblings, William S. Hobson (Kathy) of Summit, New Jersey, David A. Hobson (Elizabeth) of Lincoln, Rev. Michael A. Hobson, Pastor of Holy Apostles Parish in Halifax, Kimberly A. Manning (Peter) of Blackstone and Mark A. Hobson (Jeanne) of La Canada Flintridge, California; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Dawn's life by gathering on Friday, September 16th in Saint Jude's Church 147 Main Street, Waltham where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Her brother, Fr. Michael Hobson will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. There are no calling hours.
