Waltham – Mrs. Delia Marie "Dee" (Ouellet) Colangelo, formerly of Waltham and Framingham, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Residence in Wayland. She was 87.
Dee was born in Waltham on May 30, 1930, a daughter of the late Clarence and Edmee (Cormier) Ouellette, and lived on Central Street before moving in 1968 to Framingham.
Dee will long be remembered as a caring, nurturing woman who had a smile and a kind word for everyone and whose contagious laugh lit up the room. She worked as a waitress for years at the Wal-Lex in Waltham and then at Friendly's in Framingham. These were not just "jobs" for Dee, she truly loved her customers and, not surprisingly, she was everyone's favorite waitress.
One of Dee's favorite pastimes was to play the organ with her husband, Red, by her side singing along. She was a long time member of the Organ Aires Club in Framingham where she made many dear friends. She loved bowling, gardening, baking, and making homemade chocolates. She also mastered cake decorating and made special cakes for all the people she loved. Later in life she developed a love of knitting, crocheting, and quick point. She often made scarves for charity, and pillows and other homemade items for all those she cared for. More than anything she loved spending time with her family and her friends. If you were lucky enough to know her, you most certainly felt her love, nurturing, and care.
The wife of the late August J. "Red" Colangelo, she leaves her children, Langdon O'Reilly (Cheri) of South Carolina, Kevin O'Reilly (Tina) of Townsend, Christine Brooks (Carl) of Florida and Jacqueline Murphy (Brett) of Framingham; her step-children, Stephen Colangelo (Barbara) of Westford, Jean Levey (Jack) of Plaistow, New Hampshire, Patricia Alterisio (John) of Burlington, Francis Colangelo (Sandra) of Westborough, and Robert Colangelo (Diane) of Waltham; her grandchildren whom she adored, Michael Dunbar (Edna), Julie Creagh (John), Shaun O'Reilly (Christina), Shannon O'Reilly (Darren Hickey-McCabe), Keith O'Reilly (Kristen), Corey Kissell (Ron), Erik Brooks, Andrew Brooks (Jennifer), Jack Murphy and Ariana Murphy; her sister and brother, Rose Cormier of Waltham and John "Jack" Ouellette of Florida; sixteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, many step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, step great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Dee was also preceded in death by her sister, Edna Arsenault, sister-in-law, Catherine Adshade, nephew, Brian Ouellette, niece, Maureen Grey, great-niece Stacey Mundo and stepdaughters Sandra Cote, Barbara Puntonio and Marylou Colangelo.
Family and friends will honor and remember Dee's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, January 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
