Mr. Dennis P. McCarthy, of Waltham, entered into Eternal Life on February 20, 2022, the feast day of Saints Francisco and Jacinta Marto of Fatima. He was 67 years old.
Born in Boston on November 26, 1954, he was the son of late John Dennis McCarthy and Mary Elizabeth (Hennessey) McCarthy. Dennis was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School which was a substantial accomplishment considering his special needs. His disabilities certainly did not discourage him from pursuing further education or career minded opportunities despite consistent setbacks.
To know Dennis was to love him; he was a blessing to his family and was a 'sweetheart' to all. He had an endearing child-like trust and love that made anyone close to him feel welcome. Despite his tenacious and can-do attitude, the severity of the disabilities increased leading to hospitalizations followed by residential care for the last eight years of his life. Dennis spent six years at Hogan Regional Center in Danvers. His family would like to extend a special thank you to Thomas Danforth, for being a faithful friend throughout and Elizabeth Medrano, Hogan PCA, a loving caregiver for Dennis.
In addition to his love of family, Dennis enjoyed skiing and bowling. This proved to be a very loving environment for him.
He leaves his brothers and sisters, John D. McCarthy, Jr. of Waltham, Charles J. McCarthy and his wife Christina of Marlborough, Marybeth McCarthy and her husband Robert Enik of Waltham, Bryan P. McCarthy and his wife Noreen of Falmouth, and Christin of Worcester and 17 loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Dennis' life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, February 28th from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. before leaving in procession to Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Parish, 270 Elliot Street, Newton, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Needham.
