Waltham – Mrs. Diane V. (Marquis) Currier, of Waltham, died suddenly in her home on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. She was 73.
Diane was born in Boston on December 21, 1940, the first child of the late Robert J. and Gladys V. (Leydon) Marquis. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1958 and later Boston University in 1962. She began her career as an English teacher in the San Antonio, Texas School System and after a few years she moved back to the northeast where she taught in Duxbury and Milton until her retirement. She also worked as a real estate salesperson at Marquis Real Estate in Brighton, the family's business since 1926.
She loved to read all types of literature, sharing information via U.S. Mail with a wide-circle of friends and family, and in her spare time enjoyed writing poetry, publishing a number of poems. Growing up in the Eliot Church of Newton (Congregational), over the past 15 years she became devoted to her Church in Brighton where she served as a Deacon. Family was everything to her and she especially cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.
Diane is survived by her children, Danielle Marquis Currier and her wife, Chrishawn Spackman, of Lynchburg, Virginia, and James Currier and his wife Katrina Saltonstall Currier of Palo Alto, California; her grandchildren, Lucas, West, Boden and Callum Currier; her siblings, Bruce E. Marquis and his wife, Lucy Lombardi Marquis, of Bridgewater, J. Thomas Marquis and his wife, Sharen, of Plymouth and Aline V. Cullen and her husband, Francis X., Jr. of Newbury, New Hampshire; her nieces and nephews, Kim Marie Dangora, Bruce E. Marquis, Jr., Cara Marquis, Tracy Marquis, Francis X. Cullen, III, Thomas Cullen and Kevin Cullen and is also survived by her former husband Philip C. Currier of Bedford, New Hampshire, who along with wife Nancy, had remained close friends with Diane. Diane and Phil's daughter Danielle is a professor of sociology at Randolph College in Virginia and their son James is an entrepreneur based in San Francisco, California.
Family and friends will honor and remember Diane's life by gathering to visit at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 in Brighton-Allston Congregational Church, 404 Washington St., Brighton, where a Remembrance Service will take place at 3 p.m. A Memorial event will be held in early July; details to be announced at a later time. Memorial donations in Diane's name may be made to the Brighton-Allston Congregational Church.
