Newton - Mrs. Diane H. (Goode) Mazzola died Tuesday, March 19, 2024 in Mount Auburn Hospital after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 70.
Diane Helen Goode was born in Boston on March 11, 1954 a daughter of the late Robert and Jean (Perrullo) Goode. Raised and educated in Malden, she married Newton native Cesidio F. Mazzola on June 1, 1973 in Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Newton.
Diane had a number of places in which she worked to help support her family. She worked as a manicurist and also at Russo’s Market in Watertown. She was a crossing guard with the City of Newton but also was the payroll manager for the Parks & Recreation Department for the city for many years, retiring in 2019.
Diane loved making their house a home on Nevada Street in the Nonantum neighborhood of Newton. With her green thumb she loved to tend to her gardens and will be remembered as a fantastic cook and baker.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her son, Dante C. Mazzola on February 27, 2005; and her brother, Richard Goode.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, Sid, she leaves her sons, Dino J. Mazzola (Wendy) of Nashua, New Hampshire and Marco Mazzola (Amy) of Burlington. She was the cherished 'Nonna' of Natassia, Nicolaus and Christian Mazzola; sister of Lynn Goode (Mark Thompson) of Revere and Lori Zagarella (David) of Peabody; sister-in-law of Fiorella Kaloust of Wayland, Paula Mazzola of Palm Coast, Florida and Mara Walker (William) of Newton. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Diane’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, March 25th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery, Newton.
