Waltham – Mr. Dominick R. Uttaro, Jr., of Waltham, formerly of Watertown, died on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 in Beth Israel Hospital, Boston. He was 90.
Dominick was born in Newton on March 3, 1927, the son of the late Dominick R. and Annie O. (Stefanelli) Uttaro. After graduating from Newton Trade School he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a Sea-Bee during World War II.
Upon returning home he worked as a truck driver for Riverside Sand & Gravel before becoming a firefighter for the Town of Watertown. For the majority of his career he was the Engine 2 driver out of the East End station. He belonged to Watertown Local No. 1347 of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
On October 12, 1947 he married his sweetheart, Irene M. Camuti, in Sacred Heart Church in Waltham and the pair lived in Watertown for many years before moving to Waltham in 1977.
His beloved wife of 67 years, Irene M. Uttaro, died in 2015.
Dominick leaves his sons, Dominick R. Uttaro, III and his wife, Linda, of Auburndale, Robert J. Uttaro and his wife, Kathy, of Newton Lower Falls and William J. Uttaro and his wife, Cheryl, of Waltham; his grandchildren, Kelly Lenaghan and her husband, Sean, Kristy Uttaro, Robert Uttaro and his wife, Elena, Michael Uttaro and his wife, Eduartina, and Julie, Gina and Kerri Uttaro; his great-grandchildren, Emma and Leona Uttaro and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Anthony, Marco, Salvatore, Raymond, Frank and Paul Uttaro and Nancy Gildawie
Family and friends will honor and remember Dominick's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday September 10th, from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
