Donald F. Cavicchi

Waltham – Mr. Donald F. Cavicchi, Sr., of Waltham, died Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 in his home. He was 90.

Don was born in Boston on March 4, 1926, a son of the late Paul and Margaret (Sullivan) Cavicchi and was raised in Brighton. After graduating from Brighton High School in 1944 he joined the United States Navy where he served aboard USS Higbee DD 806, a radar picket destroyer that saw action in the Pacific.

After the war he worked at a family owned gas station in Newton before going to work for the Raytheon Company. Don was a mechanic for Raytheon for twenty-five years until his retirement and after that worked for a time for Nextel.

On April 18, 1947 he married Corinne L. Marshall in Our Lady of the Presentation Church in Brighton. He and Corinne have been Waltham residents for over sixty years.

Don was a member of the Elks in Lexington, the PFC John M. Sullivan USMC VFW Post No. 10334 in Waltham and he was a past commander of the American Legion Lt. V. MacCauley Post on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston.

In addition to his wife Corinne, Don leaves his children, Donna Cavicchi of Puerto Rico and David Cavicchi and his wife, Renelle, of Natick; his daughter-in-law, Ann Cavicchi of Waltham; his grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas and her husband, Jason, Donald Cavicchi, III and his wife, Sarah, Sandra Cavicchi, David Cavicchi, Jr., Christina Sickles and her husband, William, and Nicole Cowen and her husband, Thomas; his sisters, Margaret Cook and her husband, Ron, of Venice, Florida and Joan Mastrandea of Sarasota, Florida; his sister-in-law, Theresa Cavicchi of Walpole; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Don was also the father of the late Donald F. Cavicchi, Jr. and a brother of the late Paul Cavicchi, Jr., James Cavicchi, Robert Cavicchi, Sr., Gerald Cavicchi, Sr., and Carol Taverna.

Family and friends will honor and remember Don's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, March 31st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Committal services will follow in Calvary Cemetery Chapel, Waltham.
