Donald J. Gustafson

Marlborough – Mr. Donald J. "Ducky" Gustafson, of Marlborough, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, November 15, 2015 in the Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Westborough. He was 78.

Donald was born in Waltham on January 7, 1937, a son of the late Harry and Mary (Burke) Gustafson. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1954 to 1957.

When he got out of the service Don joined the Waltham Fire Department where he was a firefighter until his retirement in 1971. He had lived in Newton before moving to Marlborough in 1991.

He is survived by his sister, Carolyn A. Utley of Waltham, several nieces and nephews, and his longtime companion, Edna Lennon.

Don was a the brother of the late Kenneth F. Gustafson, Harold A. Gustafson and Eleanor O'Brien.

Family and friends will honor and remember Donald's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, November 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
