Waltham - Mr. Donald L. Place, Sr., of Waltham, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 72. Born in Watertown, a son of the late David and Edna (Plaisted) Place, Don had been a lifelong resident of Waltham. He worked as a school bus driver for the Lexington Public Schools, and before that, had worked for many years for the City of Waltham Recreation Department. Don was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge No. 1018 in Waltham, and had been a life member of the Waltham Elks #953, where he had been past exalted ruler in 1977 and 1978. During the Korean War he served with the United States Marine Corps. He was the husband of the late Shirley A. (Norcross) Place and a brother of the late Michael Place. Don leaves his children, Nancy L. James of Hanover, Sandra J. Tomasello of North Reading, Massachusetts State Police Lieut. Donald L. Place, Jr., of Bridgewater, Terry A. Wilson of Framingham, Robert M. Place of Glastonberry, Connecticut, and Jacqueline M. Branscombe of Andover; three sisters, Diane Simpson of Texas, Susan Prophet of Florida, and Carol Daley of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services at 10 a.m. Tuesday in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 p.m. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Childrens Hospital, 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston MA 02115.
