Waltham Retired Belmont Police Lieutenant Donald P. Roche died Friday, August 27, 2004 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 68. Born in Waltham, a son of the late Thomas P. and Grace F. (White) Roche, he grew up in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School in 1954. He was also a graduate of Boston State College. A Waltham resident for the past forty-seven years, Don was a devoted Belmont police officer for 33 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1992. He was a member of the Waltham Council of Neighborhood Associations, Waltham Land Trust, Waltham Historical Society, Waltham Arts Council and Waltham Centennial Scholarship Committee. He was the loving husband of Dorothy (Lively) Roche. They married October 27, 1957. He also leaves his children, Kelly F. Dufour and her husband Mark of Watertown, Kim F. Gentile and her husband John of Waltham and Donald P. Roche and his wife Theresa (Diaz) of Orange, CT; his grandchildren, Marquelle R. Dufour, John W. and Diane M. Gentile, Keenan F. and Nolan D. Roche; one brother, Thomas R. Pat Roche of Watertown and many nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Edward Roche, Grace Weir, Richard Roche and Virginia Saragoni. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 8 a.m. Thursday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Lukes Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
