Waltham – Albert Einstein said that "Creativity is intelligence having fun" . . . and that pretty much fit Waltham's Donna Casey.
Any time that any of us have walked into a book store or gone online at Amazon to buy a book we hardly ever think about who designs the book covers that catch our attention or piques our interest.
For years Donna worked in the digital arts and created dozens of covers for books in print and online and she was really good at it. Examples of her work can be found at her website: www.digitaldonna.com or on her Facebook page: www.facebook.com/DDcovers .
She became an author herself after having visited the wilds of Alaska and developed a fascination with grizzly bears. She penned a book under her nom de plume Donna Champagne entitled "A Grizzly End".
Her second effort at writing came after her cancer diagnosis with an online tome called "I Have Colorectal Cancer: What Now?" . . . an incredibly personal and brave account of her journey through uncertainty and doubt that revealed her inner strength and courage.
Donna M. (Champagne) Casey died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at her home. She was 67.
A daughter of the late Gerald and Marie (Pineau) Champagne, she was a lifelong Waltham resident and Waltham High graduate.
She leaves her best friend and husband of forty-eight years, James T. Casey; her son, James T. Casey, Jr.; her grandson, Jonathan H. Casey; her sister and brother, Judy Ritcey and Jerry Champagne, Jr., all of Waltham and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Donna's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, October 21st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
