Waltham- Mrs. Donna M. (Lahey) Richardson of Waltham died Thursday June 15, 2017 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a courageous two year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 61.
Donna was born in Waltham on September 19, 1955, a daughter of Joan L. (Chisholm) Lahey of Waltham, and the late Robert J. Lahey. She graduated from Waltham High School with the class of '73 and had been a lifelong resident of the city. Until her illness, she had worked for many years as a Senior Administrator at Tufts Health Plan in Watertown.
She met the love of her life, David Richardson, in 1983 and the pair would be wed in 1987. Their lives became complete when they welcomed their daughter, Lauren, into the world in 1996. Family was most important to Donna and she was happiest when everyone was gathered under the same roof. Spending time with family and friends was her favorite thing to do. She was an avid Boston sports fan, and when able, enjoyed traveling with her family to York Beach in Maine.
Donna took great comfort during her illness from the loving support and kindness from all of her family and friends, the knowledge that her daughter Lauren was enrolled and doing well in college, and her constant companion, her dog Cleo. She deeply appreciated all of the care and kindness shown to her by the doctors, nurses, and staff at Massachusetts General Hospital and Dana Farber/Brigham and Women's Hospital, as well as the care that visiting nurses gave her at home.
She is survived by her husband, David I. Richardson, of Waltham; her daughter Lauren N. Richardson of Waltham; her mother Joan L. (Chisholm) Lahey of Waltham; her siblings, Brenda A. Lahey and her longtime companion, Francis LoPresti, of Waltham, Diane J. Smith and her husband, Gary, of Waltham and Robert J. Lahey Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Stow and also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to Buddy Dog Humane Society. They are located at 151 Boston Post Road in Sudbury, Massachusetts.
