West Yarmouth – Mrs. Doris M. (Burgess) Brown, formerly of Waltham, died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. She was 84.
Mrs. Brown was born on January 9, 1927 in Wellesley, a daughter of the late Anthony and Gladys (Cormier) Burgess. She had lived in Waltham for many years before moving to Cape Cod in 1992. On June 27, 1948 she married Thomas A. Brown in Saint Mary's Church in Waltham.
Doris was a graduate of Waltham High School as well as Bryant and Stratton Business School. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Waltham Lime and Cement Company, the Ideal Block Company, and the Boston Transformer Company. In later years, she enjoyed working as an aide for Home Instead Company.
Among her interests she loved dogs, reading, cooking, baking (especially brownies) and shopping.
While a Waltham resident she was a member of St. Mary's Church, its Mothers Club and taught in its CCD program for many years. Doris was a member of the Yarmouth Senior Citizens Club and a parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis.
She is predeceased by her brother, Clarence 'Bucky' Burgess and his late wife, Mary.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Kathleen A. Donovan and her husband, Robert S. Morong Jr., of Quincy, Patricia M. Cordova and her husband, Art, of Albuquerque NM, Kenneth A. Brown and his wife, Tracey, of Canterbury NH, Timothy J. Brown and his wife, Susan, of Sudbury, and Paul M. Brown and his wife, Michelle, of Lebanon NH; her brother, Roger Burgess and his wife, Rose, of Maynard; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Clarence 'Bucky' Burgess and his late wife, Mary.
Family and friends will honor and remember Doris' life by gathering for her calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, Waltham, (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, November 20th, from 2-5 pm and again at 9:30 am on Monday before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
