Waltham – Mrs. Doris M. (Comeau) Donovan, of Waltham, died Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Maristhill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waltham. She was 86.
Doris was born in Waltham on August 22, 1930, a daughter of the late Robert and Edna (Cormier) Comeau, and had been a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Saint Charles High School and later attended Bentley College.
Until her retirement Doris worked as an accountant at Gentle Dental in Waltham. As a young woman she began working at the Clevite Company and later at Standard-Thomson and GTE, all in Waltham and then at the Sylvania Corporation in Needham.
Doris will long be remembered for her deep interest and devotion to her community. She participated in local elections and had been a member of Waltham's emergency planning committee. She belonged to the Council on Aging at the Stanley Senior Center and was a member and past president of the Waltham Council of Neighborhood Associations.
In 2006 she was honored as 'Woman of the Year' by the Waltham Business and Professional Women's Group. Doris was also a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Waltham and was a long-time supporter of Easter Seals.
She was the wife of the late James Donovan and a sister of the late Robert W. Comeau, Jr. and Elaine E. Comeau. Doris leaves her cousins and their families, including Marlene Dupuis, of Waltham.
Family and friends will honor and remember Doris's life by gathering to visit from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, August 9th in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
