Quincy – Mrs. Dorothy F. (Kelly) Badger, of Quincy, died Friday, April 18, 2014 at her home. She was 94.
Dorothy was born in Waltham on March 4, 1920, a daughter of the late Herbert and Grace (Shannon) Kelly, and was a 1938 graduate of Waltham High School.
A Quincy resident for more than sixty years she worked in the Purchasing Department at Quincy City Hall until her retirement in 2003. Dorothy earned her degree at Bryant and Stratton College in Boston and had a particular skill at typing and shorthand.
She was a lifelong Red Sox fan and would often accompany her children from their Quincy home on the bus, train and trolley to and from Fenway Park. Dorothy will long be remembered as a loving and devoted mother who was a talented seamstress, embroiderer and a terrific cook at home.
The wife of the late Philip D. Badger, Sr. she was the loving mother of the late Philip D. Badger, Jr. and his wife Monica of Columbus, Ohio; Stephen G. Badger and his late wife Marguerite Badger; Diane M. Rowland and her partner, Peter McKinney, all of Weymouth and Peter F. Badger and his wife, Pamela of Medway. Dorothy also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, April 23rd from 4 to 8 p.m. Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy's life at a memorial service to be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 27th at Christ Church, 750 Main Street, Waltham.
