Waltham – Mrs. Dorothy A. (Main) Brannelly, of Waltham, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 91.
Dorothy was born in Newton on April 8, 1923, a daughter of the late Frank A. and Lottie (Mitchell) Main. She had lived in Waltham for many years and was a secretary for almost thirty years at Waltham Hospital until her retirement. Previously, she had worked in the cafeteria at Waltham High School.
On July 5, 1945 she married Lawrence F. Brannelly in St. Bernard's Church, Newton. She loved to read and preferred to walk places whenever possible. She and he her husband loved the ocean and especially enjoyed Wells Beach in Maine. She was a great baker; brownies being her specialty.
Dorothy leave her children, Edward L. 'Larry' Brannelly and his wife, Jeannine, of Waltham, Doreen A. Graff and her husband, Byron, of Easton, Deborah M. DiTillio and her husband, Ralph, of Burlington, Patricia M. Orifice of Waltham, Karen E. Salvucci of Lowell and Kevin R. Brannelly and his wife, Donna, of Amherst, New Hampshire; fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Frank Main, Gladys Cook, Arthur Main, Marion Dew, and Ruth McMullen.
Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, May 27th, from 4-8 pm and again on Wednesday at 9 am before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
