Waltham – Mrs. Dorothy E. (McKenney) Brown, of Waltham, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Epoch Senior Living Center in Weston. She was 91. Dorothy was born on April 24, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was a daughter of the late Delbert and Sadie (Caron) McKenney. As an infant she moved with her family to Greenville, Maine where she was raised. When she was 18 Dorothy moved to Waban and in 1939 she came to Waltham after her marriage to the late Robert K. Brown and had been a resident since. Until her retirement she worked for BLH Electronics in Waltham. Dorothy was one of the founders, along with Alice Maher, of 'The Shack' for the original Waltham Little League, later named the 'Little Nippers'. She was also a Cub Scout den mother for many years and volunteered at the Waltham Boys & Girls Club. She also possessed a passion for cooking and shopping. She leaves her children, Lea A. Finucane of Warwick, Rhode Island, Robert J. Brown of Waltham and Kenneth W. Brown of Clearwater, Florida; her sisters, Ethel Pillsbury of Waterville, Maine, Kathleen Belliveau of Largo, Florida, Lucille Ryan of North Carolina and Lea Roach of New York; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was also a sister of the late Raymond, Warren, Richard and Kenneth McKenney. Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
