Dorothy H. (Goodale) Carroll

West Newton – Mrs. Dorothy H. 'Dottie' (Goodale) Carroll, of West Newton, died Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Excel Center for Nursing in Lexington. She was 90.

Dottie was one of eight children born to the late Charles A. and Helen E. (Shields) Goodale and was a lifelong Newton resident. She was a graduate of Newton High School and until her retirement was a longtime employee of the John P. Nixon Insurance Agency of Newtonville.

She enjoyed gatherings with her large and extended family and the laughter and good conversation over politics and current events that were always a part of it. Dottie was an avid walker who, with her perfect posture, was a familiar sight to many as she logged miles and miles throughout her life. She was a devoted parishioner of Saint Bernard Church in West Newton for most of her life and in later years at Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Waltham.

The wife of the late Paul F. Carroll, Sr. she leaves her children, M. Linda Lyons of Weymouth, Virginia C. 'Ginny' Burke of Waltham, Paul F. 'Buddy' Carroll, Jr. of Bedford and John A. 'Jack' Carroll of Medford; her sons-in-law, Thomas J. Lyons of Weymouth and Lamont Warren of Medford; her sisters and brother, Marjorie McLean of Newton, Elizabeth 'Betty' Barnes of West Dennis, Charles A. Goodale of Mendon and Carol A. Rhodes of Tampa, Florida; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Dottie was also the mother of the late Kathleen D. Welch and a sister of the late Harold A. Goodale, Joan M. O'Halloran and Nancy E. Ober.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, January 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Bernard's Church, 1523 Washington Street, West Newton where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
