Waltham - Mrs. Dorothy (Ingalls) Clapp, of Waltham, a retired registered nurse, died peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Leland Home. She was 97. Dorothy was born in Lubec, Maine, the only child of Sea Captain Jack and Mamie (Cummings) Ingalls. She graduated from Shead Memorial High School in Eastport, Maine and Bay State Medical Center in Springfield and worked for many years at Massachusetts General Hospital and retired from Harvard University Health Center as a head nurse. Dorothy was a sixty-eight year member of the order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Waltham Women's Club, she served over 100 hours as a volunteer at Waltham Hospital and was the oldest active member of the Fist Baptist Church of Waltham. Dorothy loved traveling and visited all fifty states, the Caribbean Islands, and all European countries and Israel. Dorothy was the wife of the late Kenneth L. Clapp for sixty three years. Dorothy leaves many cousins in Maine, Florida and many close friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 6, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 400 Lexington Street, Waltham. Burial was held at Mount Feake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church.
