Dorothy J. 'Joyce' Condon

 Joyce was born in Newburyport 1933. The daughter of the late George L. Bowman Sr. and Dorothy (Forsey) Bowman. A graduate of Waltham High School. She later earned her Associate degree in nursing from the former Newton-Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing.

Joyce married Joseph T. Condon on October 20, 1957 in Saint Jude’s Church and remained a lifelong Waltham resident.

Her thirty-year nursing career spanned at several hospitals, retiring as a psych nurse at the Arbor Hospital in Jamaica Plain.

After retirement Joyce spent time with her family and friends. If you needed a movie or book recommendation, Joyce was the one to call. When medical advice was needed she pulled out her medical dictionary, which could always be found next to her recliner.

Joyce spent a year at Benchmark Senior Living where the community was loving, caring and compassionate. The nursing staff took extraordinary care of Joyce. From the front desk to the kitchen crew they all knew her name.  She made many friends while there. 

Wife of the late Joseph T. Condon, she leaves her children, James G. Condon and his wife, Georgina ‘Gina’ Rando Condon of Waltham, Jack A. Condon of Sherman Oaks, California and Jill D. Condon- Carlson and her husband, Wayne of Waltham; her granddaughter, Georgiana Joyce ‘Georgi’ Condon; sister of the late George L. ‘Sonny’ Bowman Jr and Betty Jane Hurnowicz.

Family and friends will honor and remember Joyce’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Friday, November 24th from 3 to 6 p.m. and again on Saturday morning when her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
