Waltham Mrs. Dorothy L. (Coleman) Dennis, of Waltham, died Sunday, October 8, 2006 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 89. She was the wife of the late James A. Jakey Dennis. Born in Newton, a daughter of the late James and Hazel (Wolfenden) Coleman, she had lived in Waltham for most of her life. Dorothy was an avid reader, and until her retirement she worked as executive secretary for the Building and Grounds Department at Brandeis University in Waltham where she began working in 1959. Dorothy leaves her children, Michael L. Dennis of Falmouth and Carol A. Sweet of Waltham; her daughters-in-law, Anna Dennis of North Carolina and Linda Dennis of Harwich; her grandchildren, Jacqueline Scafidi, Dawn Ziemba, Frank Sweet, Jr., Alfred Babe Scafidi, Stephen Scafidi, Larry Scafidi, Kelly Schiebel, James Dennis, III, Michael Dennis, II, Richard Dennis, Jr., Carrie Cass, Lindsay Dennis and Zachary Dennis; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Richard K. Dennis, Capt. James A. Dennis, Jr. U.S.N. and Joyce M. Scafidi; mother-in-law of the late Frank C. Sweet and Alfred A. Scafidi and sister of the late James Coleman, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery.
