Dorothy Hayes

Waltham – Mrs. M.A. Dorothy ‘Dot’(Gaudet) (Chiasson) Hayes, of Waltham, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 in the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland. She was 95.

Dot was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, on March 21, 1915, a daughter of the late Marcel and Sarah (Cormier) Gaudet and moved to Waltham with her family when she was six years old. She was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School, Class of 1933. Until her retirement she worked as a bookkeeper for the Guaranty Trust Bank on Main Street. Before that, Dot worked for the Raytheon Company.

She was the wife of the late William F. Hayes and Alphonse A. Chiasson; grandmother of the late Dorothy Golledge and a sister of the late Ralph Gaudet, Yvonne Cannon and Emery Gaudet.

Dot leaves her children, Marcella D. Tend of Cerritos, California, Bernard A. Chiasson of Ft. Myers, Florida, David B. Hayes of Westminster, Colorado and Karen M. Minty of Wayland; her brother, J. Edward Gaudet of Lexington; her sisters, Kathleen O’Neil and Louise Brandt, both of Waltham; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dot’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
