Dorothy A. (Wood) Young

Waltham – Mrs. Dorothy A. (Wood) Young, of Waltham, died Monday, December 19, 2016 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 90.

Dorothy was born in Waltham on November 6, 1926, a daughter of the late Lemuel and Alice (Penney) Wood, and had been a lifelong resident. Until her retirement she worked as a nurse's aide at the Walter E. Fernald School in Waltham.

She could often be seen out for a walk or tending to her garden . . . she was a year-round knitter, always making sure the grandchildren had a new hat, blanket or scarf for Christmas.

The wife of the late Norman A. Young, she leaves her children, Marilyn G. "Gail" Cook of Waltham and Linda Matson and her husband, Timothy, of Fitchburg; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was also the mother-in-law of the late Rodney Cook and sister of the late Robert Wood and Marilyn Steber.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy's life by gathering to visit at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 22nd in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham where her funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
