Edith M. Bickford, 101 years old, of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Waltham, passed away on December 26, 2024 with family and friends by her side. She was just shy of her 102nd birthday.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Nickerson of Yarmouth Nova Scotia, daughters Diane (Allan) Johnson, Joanne Ruth, Rhonda Stanley, Priscilla Howard Lareau (Peter Lareau), Marcia Kilburn, several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Kathy Howard.
Edith was born in Lower Argyle, Nova Scotia to Charles and Ethel Nickerson. She loved her family and friends who she grew up with and shared many stories of her adventures in Nova Scotia. She really enjoyed singing in the church choir, and working at the family owned “Snackery” where she met Richard J. Howard. They were married and moved to Waltham where they lived and raised their six daughters. Edith spent many years working at the famous Waltham Watch Factory while raising her children.
After Richard’s passing she married Howard C. Bickford and they spent many years traveling the United States and the world. She spoke often about traveling to Las Vegas, Hawaii and Europe.
Edith will be terribly missed by all her family and the many friends that she so easily made.
Family and friends will honor and remember Edith’s life by gathering for an Afternoon Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 5th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
