Edith C. (Cassidy) Cardone

Waltham – Mrs. Edith C. (Cassidy) Cardone, of Waltham, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at her home. She was 84.

Edith was born in Waltham on March 31, 1931, a daughter of the late John J. and Edith J. (Erickson) Cassidy, and was raised in Watertown. Shortly after her marriage to Albert M. Cardone, the couple moved to Waltham where they became lifelong residents.

Until her retirement Edith worked as a quality control inspector for the Unitrode Corporation in Watertown. Throughout her life she loved to travel . . . whether it was on almost daily excursions on public transit to Boston or Cambridge . . . to visit family in Colorado, Arizona and California or vacationing in Europe, especially on trips to Rome, Paris, Holland, Austria and Germany.

In addition to her traveling excursions Edith loved spending time with family and friends; meeting new people; going to church; dancing; singing; poetry; reading and bragging about her beloved grandchildren. She was a great story teller and felt blessed for each new day. She will long be remembered as being loving, kind, compassionate, generous, loyal, strong and sensitive.

The wife of the late Albert M. Cardone, she leaves her children, Doreen Pinkham of Somerville and Patricia A. Vanaria and her husband, Stephen A., of Waltham; her grandchildren, Stephen A. Vanaria, II and Albert M. Vanaria; her sister, Ruth M. Hemenway of Oceanside, California and many nieces and nephews.

Edith was also the mother of the late Albert M. Cardone, Jr. and a sister of the late Lorraine Dahlin, John J., Paul R., Alfred F., and Leo L. Cassidy.

Family and friends will honor and remember Edith's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, August 16th, from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
