Peabody - Mrs. Edith (Wells) Kann, of Peabody, formerly of Waltham, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at her home. She was 96. Edith was born in Somerville on October 8, 1912 and was a daughter of the late Clyde and Agnes (Riley) Wells. She had lived in Waltham for most of her life before moving to Peabody in 2003. Edith was a graduate of Saint Charles High School in Waltham and had worked as a secretary for twenty-three years at the Raytheon Company until retiring in 1977. After that, she attended and graduated from Massachusetts Bay Community College. She ran the Beaver Brook Senior Citizens Club in Waltham for 20 years and served on the Waltham Council on Aging. She spent many happy days enjoying her favorite activity, dancing. The wife of the late Alexander B. Kann, she leaves her children, David Kann and his wife, Mary, of Marthas Vineyard, Lawrence Kann and his wife, Lisa, of Tewksbury and Gregory Kann and his wife, Lillian, of Exeter, New Hampshire; 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Edith was also a sister of the late Paul Wells, Mary Steinhour, Genevieve Hartwell, Dorothy King and Edna Bellis. Family and friends will honor and remember Edith's life by gathering to visit at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham on Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, Waltham.
