Mrs. Edith B. 'Bernie' (Scott) Stremeckus, of Waltham, died at home with family at her side on Saturday, November 14, 2020. She was 89.
Bernie was born on December 22, 1930 in Somerville a daughter of the late William R. and Rose E. (Gillan) Scott. Raised and educated in Somerville she married Julius A. 'Strum' Stremeckus on July 27, 1952 in Saint Paul's Church in Harvard Square. They made Waltham their home since 1967.
She worked as a cashier at the former Waltham Supermarket. Bernie loved time at home with family and friends, a challenging crossword, a game of Scrabble and crocheting beautiful afghans for her loved ones.
In addition to her husband, 'Strum', she was predeceased their son, James C. Stremeckus; her brother, Richard Scott (late Jean); sisters-in-law, Carol Scott and Shirley Scott.
She leaves her children, Mark W. Stremeckus of Haverhill and Jean P. Stremeckus of Waltham; her grandchildren, Cheryl Stremeckus, Michael Stremeckus (Angel) and Haley Peppard; great-grandmother of Payton, Cameron and Madison; sister of William Scott of Chelmsford, Bernard 'Buddy' Scott of Oregon, Dorothy 'Dolly' LaBarge (Sherman) of Fryeburg, Maine, Barbara Scott of New Port Richey, Florida and the late Richard Scott; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bernie's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, November 17th from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in The Gardens of Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury.
