Attleboro – Mr. Edmond J. 'Joe' Chiasson, of Attleboro, a former longtime Waltham resident, died suddenly, Tuesday, October 10, 2006. He was 86 years old. Joe leaves his wife, Elizabeth 'Joyce' (Seebold) Chiasson; his children, Joseph Chiasson and his wife, Betsy, of North Attleboro, Margaret A. Potter and her husband, Robert, of North Attleboro and Marco Island, Florida, Kathleen M. Dunn and her husband, William, of Englewood, Florida and Mary E. Hartman and her husband, Robert, of Lincoln; two brothers, Thomas Chiasson of Westminster, California and Richard Chiasson of Bellingham. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His daughter, Elizabeth A. Marquis died in 1999. He was predeceased by his siblings, James, Ernest, Vincent, Rev. Ronald Chiasson OMI, and Alice Lemerand. Joe was born in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, Canada, a son of the late Thomas and Cecelia (Delaney) Chiasson. He lived most of his life in Waltham before moving to the retirement community at Canterbury Woods in Attleboro in November 2005. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Joe was a police officer for the Waltham Police Department for thirty-one years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1984. He was appointed to the force in October, 1953, was promoted to sergeant in May, 1970 and made a lieutenant in April, 1972. He was a member of the Retired Massachusetts Police Association and the former St. Joseph Church in Waltham. Joe had been a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Waltham. The Funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Kennedy-Donovan Early Intervention Program, 25 Forest St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
