Shrewsbury - Eddie Ahern had his signature red sneakers that he wore to almost every occasion both ordinary and formal. Perhaps they matched his terrific sense of humor and quick wit. Eddie was one of those great guys who quickly became friend to many. 'Uncle Eddie' as known and referred to by family and friends was well loved. His family, both immediate and extended, his lifelong friends from St. John's High School and the many friendships from his many golf games are what made Eddie most happy.
Edmund Francis Ahern Jr. was born September 21, 1954 in Worcester a son of the late Edmund F. and Frances (Trotto) Ahern. Irish by name his mother's large Italian family are those with whom he remained close. He was a lifelong Shrewsbury resident and graduated with the class of 1972 from St. John's High School and then earned his Bachelor's degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. For many years he was a pharmacist with Fallon Community Health and later for CVS in their Grafton location.
Eddie died unexpectedly on Friday, November 12, 2021. He was 67.
In early years he was an avid skier and at age thirteen was on the U.S. Jr. Olympic team and skied in Lyon, France. He also loved the game of golf and played wherever invited or where he played the course well. He was a familiar face at both Dennis Pines and Dennis Highlands golf course on Cape Cod. He divided a lot of his time between Shrewsbury and his home in Dennis on Cape Cod. As a teenager he was the head grounds keeper at Seaview Playland in Dennisport.
Eddie was a great dad to his three children and a constant presence in their lives from young ages. Whether in a seat watching Katie's dance recital (while quietly questioning the cost of the outfits) or the cold hills and mountains to watch John ski and the bleachers and sidelines to cheer on Rory at his baseball games…Eddie was a proud Dad. And he loved being 'Papa' to his five young grandchildren.
He leaves his children, Katherine F.V. Faucher (David) of Shrewsbury, John F. Ahern (Kate) of Watertown and Rory E. F. Ahern (Lynne) of Shrewsbury; his grandchildren, Madeline and Griffin Faucher, Seamus, Maeve and Rowan Ahern; his brother, James F. Ahern (Bonnie) of Sutton and sister, Kelly A. Strobel (Charles) of Northborough; his former wife, Sharon L. (Riley) Ahern of Shrewsbury; also survived by nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eddie's life by gathering for calling hours in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury on Wednesday, November 17th from 4 to 7 p.m. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
